Alternative Sermons - The Hellpoet
When he is not being the unsettling, eldritch youth pastor of your prophetic dreams, The Hellpoet (he/him) is a British-Bangladeshi, queer, transgender, neurodivergent poet and writer from the North East of England, who has given sermons across many events within Leeds and Manchester poetry scenes. Influenced by Gothic Horror, Tom Waits, queer culture and Brechtian Theatre, The Hellpoet is known for his quick, cutting delivery, seamless use of rhyme/wordplay, and meticulous balance of comedy and fury; his work predominantly tackles the politicised experience of living as a trans person of colour in the United Kingdom, delivered through the character of a Clive Barker-esque preacher.

In this profound and enigmatic debut, The Hellpoet presents a set of passionate sermons for those who wish to find their faith in all the 'wrong' places. Exploring gender, horror, sociology, and the inexplicable allure of Willem Dafoe, Alternative Sermons is a trip through the life of a man hell-bent on justice for anyone who's ever been made to feel as if they don't fit into a world that simply isn't built for - or even ready for - their existence.
