White Shorts, White Socks: A one year chronicle of a British Indian amateur football team manager in Sunderland during the year 2003 - Davinder Sangha

Since the late 1990s, I have been documenting my experiences with amateur football through blogging, including the early days of website blogging, a practice that I maintain to this day. To date, my sole publication is a diary chronicling a season spent managing an all-white football team in Sunderland during the 2003 to 2004 season and beyond. This work offers a fascinating insight into a single season within a Saturday morning football league, highlighting its various challenges and experiences. I was born in the UK, in Huddersfield, but moved up to Sunderland at the age of 13. That's where my real interest in football started; avidly reading International football books and showing an interest in Sunderland AFC, and then going on to start my own 6-a-side league, 11-a-side team, overseas football tours, matches played at The Stadium of Light. Married with three grown up children, and one granddaughter.

Blurb:

A year-long diary captures the journey of an Indian-origin, British-born soccer manager leading an all-white team in an amateur football league in Sunderland during the 2003-2004 season. This narrative is drawn from reports and diary entries shared online throughout that time. Interestingly, the on-field action takes a backseat, overshadowed by the prevailing opinions of the era.
